After stumbling upon this song once more when rummaging through good old YouTube (even though it’s barely a decade old) I was reminded of the infamous Buffalo Bill danse as seen in Silence of the Lambs. Aside from gawking at the crazed man’s mangina for a good ten seconds while reading comments of:
“Would you fuck me?”
“I’d fuck me real hard”
Putting aside the scene, the song is what caught me. From its soothing synths to some very skanky toned drum beats. It was really a heavenly song
When I had a few more plays, I tried to look for more info on the band Q Lazzarus, but sadly, I’ve only been able to find some info on Wikipedia or a few MySpace profiles. Nothing, all I know is that the band – or more focused on the front woman – has only made like two official songs for a single that’s only a ‘7 inch vinyl. If anything, I spit on record labels for not licensing her (less she chose to stay obscure) At least her most famous song is easily attainable now from either the official Clerks II OST or from online sites.
Listening thoroughly to the lyrics once my ecstasy-induced ears were finally sober, I came up with interpretations to what the lyrics could mean.
Taken from her MySpace profile:
I feel creepy just listening to it. There is so much violence and obscurity within the walls of Good-bye Horses. It represents all that is good and evil in the world. It is what the world would be listening to on a Saturday night if the Nazi's had won the war, only if the Nazi's had good taste. This Song rivals every other song ever known to man.
“Such great analogy”
Though on to my main point of this post, I’m going to give what I think – not saying it’d be the official meaning, but it could be about a break up or a death in the family
[You told me, I see the rise
But, it always falls
I see them come, I see them go
You say, "All things pass into the night"
And I say, "Oh no sir I must say you're wrong
I must disagree, oh no sir, I must say you're wrong"
Won't you listen to me]
From this passage, I can interpret that it be a quarreling couple that sees one of the betters just trying to achieve what they’ve always dreamed of, but, they can never get to what they want to achieve. In this, he/she starts to see them go in and out of their lives as the nights grow longer. When the one trying to achieve this goal starts to interfere with their lives, the other has to step up to open their lover’s eyes to truth.
[You told me, I've seen it all before
I been there, I've seen my hopes and dreams
Lying on the ground]
From here, you can guess the one who sees their other trying to achieve, it could mean that they’ve experienced turmoil’s so similar; like a break up or trying to achieve their dreams.
[I've seen the sky just begin to fall
He said, "All things pass into the night"
And I say, "Oh no sir, I must say you're wrong
I must disagree, oh no sir, I must say you're wrong"
Won't you listen to me]
Again, they fight, but then it all goes down. The one who thrives to achieve their dreams will no longer even care for their lover. The dreamer leaves, and the lover is heart broken…
[Good-bye horses, I'm flying over you
Good-bye horses, I'm flying over you
Good-bye horses, I'm flying over you
Good-bye horses, I'm flying, flying, flying over you]
Good-bye whores
It could’ve been a dream to be a porn star, changing gender identity/preferences, or maybe they’re so infatuated in achieving their dreams, it has eventually became their own mistress. The one heartbroken cries over their sensual loss.
