| | I was going to metablog about good posts versus my posts, but then I realized “Who gives a crap anymore?” With the sudden second surge of users leaving this year, I’m forced to put up my thoughts on the whole thing once more. Last year, we saw a handful of our most beloved users leave our land of Xanga, and it was sad. This year, more beloved users are starting to die or slowly turn off, while followers of these once active users are leaving in caravans for other, bigger places (ie: Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Blogger, Wordpress, Personal Sites) There still is a wide audience that flocks to Xanga on a daily basis, but these users are just people who blog a few words, browse around, then go off and have real lives. There’s only been a small trickle of serious bloggers to enter Xanga lately, while a group of blogging veterans of three or more years start to shut down their Xanga sites from either excessive drama, no wills to keep on writing, or just simply life in all a matter of seconds. When we all say farewell to these users that go on hiatus or leave, what we are really saying is farewell to our entertainment/reasons for logging into Xanga, and audience. At current trends between this time last year and right now, there has been a large dwindle in traffic numbers coming to this site. I mean, during some really hot days in the Fall of just last year, TheTheologianscafe would have beyond 250+ on a bare bones post alone, while other more well known Xangans would average around thirty comments the least on latest updates. But with more users leaving, and content being less then acceptable – I don’t want to point fingers, but the ISH sites kind of detract any more blogs coming into the main site of Xanga – I fear that since I respectfully try to blog for an audience, I’m blogging to a house that’s only partially full in the front row on good days. Not to say everything has gone down the drain, there are a lot of users that still average 50+ comments/eprops per posts, but then I find myself a little bored. I’m not trying to say that these users are bad writers, but a lot of the content seems really subpar compared to the erupting topics that were so ripe last spring. Maybe it’s because I’ve had one full year of blogging on Xanga, and a lot of the content doesn’t seem so fresh anymore. It’s like watching TV to only see the same show, do the cliché story of so and so, then que end; but with less soul. It could just be me reacting to all of this because I’ve became an online hermit to this site for so long now. But decline in quality blogging isn’t the only fault here; it’s the amount of users that leave us when the heat gets turned up. There was such a bigger crowd last year when the first Twilight bashing post was ever featured on Xanga’s front page. Now, you can catch about twenty hate posts a day from here or any other online outlet. I find myself seeing Xanga being turned to start pleading for a new EXK or famous people to join up their services (looking for the next Tila Tequila I must say?) Even though Xanga has started to become an overly repetitive soap opera, I’d be the last user to leave this place in a heartbeat (less I suddenly see my account here be instantly wiped out) I just fear that while I try my hardest to write more material to draw in more lingering eyes, the audience platform may continue to shrink here, and soon, I’d be force to look to places like WordPress or Blogger for new people to read me. Having to carry all my hard work put into this site, and over into other places unheard of by anyone else, I’d almost inch closer to go and say “FUCK THIS!” |
